WHO SHOULD CALL?

Every person planning to dig (using hand tools, power operated or power driven equipment)
should notify USA North at 811 / 1-800-227-2600 / www.usanorth.org.

OUTLINE YOUR DIGGING SITE

Prior to your call to USA North, outline your digging location on paved surfaces with white: spray chalk, water base, UV paint or equivalent less permanent type marking; use flags, stakes whiskers, etc. on unpaved surfaces, Homeowners can use flour to enable USA North underground facility members to determine the area of digging to be field marked.

WHEN TO CALL

Two (2) working days to 14 calendar days before your planned digging, notify USA North
at 811 / 1-800-227-2600 / www.usanorth.org. For your convenience make your call on
Wednesday, Thursday or Friday afternoons to avoid communication delays.

USA NORTH TICKET NUMBER

At the end of your call, you will be given a ticket number, referencing your digging
information. Hold on to your ticket number in case you need to call USA North back. You can get
a copy of your ticket at www.usanorth.org with the members notified on the ticket with their contact numbers.

Your USA North Ticket will be active for 28 calendar days from the day it is called in.
If your excavation will continue past the 28 day active period, call USA North back to
extend the ticket before it expires.

USA NORTH MEMBER RESPONSE

In response to your ticket the USA North members will either:

   • Mark or stake the horizontal path of their underground facilities.
   • Provide information about the location of their underground facilities.
   • Advise you that they do not have any underground facilities in conflict with your digging work

Note: this is for subsurface installation that our Members own, operate or maintain.

After the USA North members have field marked their facilities, you are required to notify
USA North anytime those field markings are no longer reasonably visible.

HAND DIGGING

In California and Nevada hand excavate within 24” of the outside diameter of the facility. Facilities that are in conflict with your excavation are to be located with hand tools and protected before power equipment is used.
